Order of the Mayor due to COVID-19 Impacts on Public Safety:
Extension of City Buildings Closed to the Public

On March 10, 2020, Governor Charlie Baker declared a state of emergency in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. On March 13, 2020, Mayor Nicole LaChapelle (“Mayor”) declared the State of Emergency for the City of Easthampton, effective upon the issue and which shall remain in effect until notice is given, pursuant to the judgment of the Mayor and Board of Health that the State of Emergency no longer exists.

Cá viên miễn phíIn the face of an extreme risk of COVID-19 person-to-person transmission, the City’s Declaration of Emergency stays in effect until further notice.

City Buildings Closed to Public

Easthampton City Hall, the Council of Aging, Public Schools, and all other public buildings have been closed to the public since Monday, March 16, 2020, to protect members of the public and city employees. All core municipal services are ongoing without disruption.

Cá viên miễn phíEffective December 1, 2020, this closure will now extend through March 1, 2021. Core municipal services will remain as they have been provided since Monday, March 16, 2020. All city department phone lines are monitored for incoming calls and voice mails. If a call is not returned, residents can call the Mayor’s Office at 413-529-1470, and my office will reply directly to the caller.

Cá viên miễn phíThe number of city employees in buildings coincides with Governor Baker’s occupancy limits, and working remotely as much as possible is still strongly encouraged.

Cá viên miễn phíThe City of Easthampton works as quickly as possible to improve air quality and circulation so public buildings can begin to open to the public. This order allows, with the joint approval of the Board of Health and School Committee, in-person classes that are in line with the Governor’s occupancy guidance.

Public Safety Complex

The Public Safety Complex lobby at 32 Payson Avenue will continue to be an accessible area to the public. However, the public will not have access to community meeting rooms. Drug drop off is suspended until further notice. Public contact with Dispatch will be via the lobby phone. Additionally, the sharps dispensary container was relocated to the lobby.

The actions are a part of a city-wide risk-mitigation strategy to reduce the heightened regional risk of cross-contamination. We are working closely with federal, state, and surrounding communities to reduce the spread of the virus further.

Cá viên miễn phíAs Mayor, I will regularly review this order to determine continuation, amendments, supersede, or revoke this Order on or before March 1, 2021.

I ordered this 1st day of December 2020.

Cá viên miễn phíThe City of Easthampton, Massachusetts

Nicole LaChapelle
